The Jerusalem Dream

In-Depth Tours of Jerusalem · Licensed Tour Guide · Hebrew & English

We built The Jerusalem Dream, the website of Rahel Afarsemon, a tour guide licensed by the Israel Ministry of Tourism who has guided in Jerusalem for more than 20 years, in Hebrew and English. It is a site we coded from scratch, without WordPress, in the wine and sand tones of her logo and with her own photos and words. It has a page for each of her nine tours, her two annual ceremonies and her lecture series on Ethiopia, a photo gallery on every page, direct contact with Rahel on WhatsApp and by phone, an accessibility statement, and full SEO foundations for Google and AI search.

A Coded Website, in Her Own Photos and Words

Rahel guides in-depth tours of faiths, religions, rituals and prayers in Jerusalem, and over the years she has taken hundreds of photos of the city's people and places. We wanted a site that feels like her tours rather than a template, so we coded it from scratch, without WordPress. The design follows her logo: wine, brown and sand tones, with a handwritten "Jerusalem Dream" signature above the headings. The homepage opens with a corridor of portraits from her photos and continues to the "Jerusalem Dream" text, an introduction to Rahel, a tours carousel, the ceremonies and the lectures. The main menu has a drop-down for the tours, and a "WhatsApp Rahel" button sits at the top of every page. The texts on the site are Rahel's own words, and the photos are hers, except those credited to another photographer.

A Page for Every Tour, With a Gallery From the Field

The site has nine tours: the three faiths, Jewish, Christian and Muslim Jerusalem, Ein Karem, the Beit Jamal monastery, Mea Shearim, the Ark of the Covenant and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Each tour has its own page, which opens with the title over her photos and a description of the tour. A "quick look" card sums up the tour's options, with an "ask Rahel about this tour" button that opens WhatsApp, and her phone number. Further down come the stops, and the "moments from the tour" gallery holds dozens of her photos from the places the tour visits, each opening in an enlarged view on a click. The page ends with more tours and a call to book. On phones, a fixed bar with WhatsApp, call and the accessibility menu stays with the visitor.

Annual Ceremonies and a Lecture Series

Beyond the tours, Rahel takes groups to two ceremonies held once a year: the Sigd of Ethiopian Jews in Jerusalem, and Epiphany at Qasr al-Yahud on the Jordan River. Each ceremony has a page that shows the next date at the top, followed by an explanation of the festival, a gallery from the ceremony and a button to join. Her lecture series on Ethiopia has its own page too, with its four sessions, videos and a gallery from the sessions. The coming dates also appear on the homepage and in the footer under "once a year", so a visitor sees right away when the next ceremony is.

Two Languages, Accessibility, and SEO for Google and AI Search

Rahel guides in Hebrew and English, so we built the site in both languages: Hebrew, right to left, at the main address, and English, left to right, under /en, with a language switch on every page. Eight of the nine tours are available in English too, and for every photo that carries information we wrote alt text in Hebrew and English describing what it shows. The site follows the Israeli accessibility standard IS 5568 at level AA, with an accessibility menu, a "skip to content" link, full keyboard navigation and a detailed accessibility statement. We built the SEO in from the start: a title and description for every page, structured data for every tour (TouristTrip), structured data about Rahel with her guiding licence from the Ministry of Tourism, breadcrumbs, and a sitemap in both languages. Alongside them we added an llms.txt file that tells AI engines who Rahel is, which tours she guides and how to reach her.
