Who can advertise on ChatGPT? It is the first question every business owner in Israel has asked since the channel opened here in mid-September 2026. OpenAI's answer is written in families of categories, not in the names of trades, so anyone looking for their own business in the list does not find it. For this article we went through more than 280 business types that advertise in Israel, following the categories of the big business directories, and marked for each one: the status in Israel, the status in the US as the signal for the future, and what exactly decides. Everything follows OpenAI's advertising policies, version 1.6 of 10 September 2026, re-checked on 23 September 2026. The rules themselves are explained in our article on the ChatGPT ads policy. Who can advertise on ChatGPT: how to read the tables
The policy does not divide the world into "allowed" and "prohibited". It has four states, and the tables are useful only once you understand them:
- ✅ Allowed. The business sits clearly in one of the four families OpenAI focuses on today: consumer and household goods, local services, travel and entertainment, and digital products and education. Even here the ad must meet the baseline rules, and the final decision is made at account verification.
- ⚠️ Depends on framing. The same business is allowed in one wording and prohibited in another. A cosmetician offering a facial is allowed; "acne treatment" is a medical claim. A restaurant is allowed; a wine bar is not. The "What decides" column says where the line runs.
- ⛔ Prohibited. The field appears in the policy as prohibited, or falls under "financial, health and legal services outside the US". For an Israeli business that means: not now.
- ❓ Not mentioned. The policy mentions neither the business nor its family, and states that "all other categories are disallowed at launch". This covers most business-to-business services. The decision is made at account verification, and we do not guess it.
The US column is the only signal there is for the future. Today OpenAI approves the restricted categories in the US only, manually and case by case, and writes that it "expects to expand eligible categories over time", with no date. Our assumption, and it is an assumption, not a promise: what has already opened there will open here too. We mark "Case-by-case approval" ONLY for types that appear on OpenAI's explicit US lists. A trade that is not on a list is marked "Not mentioned", even though the policy's opening sentence speaks of "healthcare & medicine" in general. If it is "Prohibited there too", there is currently no signal at all. An Israeli business selling to an American audience reads this column literally.
Two more things apply to everyone. First, according to the account setup page, your industry is part of verification, and an advertiser whose primary business model is in a prohibited field may be rejected even for an allowed product. Second, even an approved ad does not appear in conversations about personal or mental health, whatever the field. The markings in the tables are our reading of the policy's wording, not an approval from OpenAI.
Home, construction, renovation and cars
This is the simplest sector: almost everything is a "local service", the family OpenAI names explicitly. The exceptions are financing, which is a financial service, and an ad for a specific flat for sale.

Beauty, grooming, fitness and leisure
This is where the thinnest line in the policy runs. Hair styling, nails and makeup are an ordinary local service. The moment there is a laser, a needle or a promise of a result in the body, it is a "cosmetic procedure" or a "health claim", and both sit in the health section. In fitness the rule is the reverse: equipment and workout programmes are allowed, as long as there is no medical claim or weight-loss promise.

Health, complementary medicine and emotional therapy
This is the sector where the answer is hardest, so precision matters. The policy states that "ads for health services outside the US are generally prohibited", and in addition restricts claims about the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of a physical or mental health condition, and prohibits unsupported treatment claims everywhere. In the US there is an explicit list of categories approved manually case by case: consumer medical devices, dental services, dietary supplements, health insurance, hospitals and urgent care, medical testing and diagnostics, minimally invasive cosmetic procedures and vision products. Only those are marked "Case-by-case approval". Physicians and therapists not on the list are marked "Not mentioned". In complementary medicine and emotional therapy the line runs through the claim: whoever offers "relief" or "balance" is in the gray area, whoever offers "healing" or "treatment of" is in the health section.

Finance, insurance, legal and real estate
The three fields in which the most Israeli businesses advertise are also the three the policy closes outside the US. The difference between "generally prohibited" (finance, health) and "currently prohibited" (legal) is wording, not practice: for a business in Israel both mean no. In the US all three are approved manually, case by case, so the US column here is the most interesting in the whole article. In real estate the rule is different: it is not the field that is prohibited, but the ad for a specific property.

It depends on the framing. A facial, brow styling and lash styling are an ordinary local service and are allowed. "Acne treatment", "cures" or any promise of a result in the body is a health claim, and then the ad is prohibited. Laser hair removal and Botox are minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, which are listed under health services, so for a business in Israel they are generally prohibited.
The policy does not mention them. OpenAI's list of financial services names products: loans, insurance, mortgages, investments and payments. Accounting is a professional service to businesses that does not fall into any allowed family, so the decision is made at account verification. An ad for "financial planning" moves into the financial section, and is then prohibited outside the US.
Yes, as long as alcohol is not the focus. A restaurant, café, pizzeria or caterer is a local service, and allowed as long as alcohol is not the focus. An incidental mention of wine is allowed, but a bar, a pub or a "wine evening" is alcohol marketing, which is currently prohibited for every advertiser. In the US, OpenAI approves manually, advertiser by advertiser, fields such as insurance, mortgages, dentistry, optics and lawyers. Outside the US those same fields are prohibited. OpenAI writes that it expects to expand the eligible categories over time, with no date. So a trade that is already approved in the US has the highest chance of opening here too, and a trade that is prohibited there too, such as plastic surgery or debt settlement, has no sign at all.
